Dinner at Fire Lake Grill, September 15, 2018

We wanted something light like salad so we went to Fire Lake Grill. We were not dressed for fine dining, we were wearing tsinelas and looking a little dungis because we came straight from the farm.

There was a marriage proposal going on when we entered the restaurant. Chef Paul was busy helping orchestrate the memorable occasion. I was embarrassed to take photos of the couple. Baka sabihin usyosera.

According to Chef Paul, the guy requested him to place the diamond ring on the cake and instead of happy birthday, it says will you marry me.

It was the girl’s birthday. They celebrated it with several other people so hindi halata that he was going to propose that evening. I saw the couple standing and posing for cameras and the woman holding a big bouquet of flowers. I like that it’s a simple proposal. Naaartehan ako dun sa mga elaborate preparations. Parang OA (overacting). Guys, do not succumb to pressure that the proposal has to be extravagant. Something sweet and romantic of course is good. Being “crazy” in love with each other will make the proposal romantic anywhere and anytime.

Nainggit naman ako. Kami hindi na propose or re-propose, ano na lang-
repurpose. Parang kahoy and antiques.

It was a night of celebrations according to Chef Paul. A couple at another table was celebrating their 15th wedding anniversary and another mag-sweetheart was celebrating their 6th boyfriend – girlfriend anniversary. Ang tagal na.

Kami, we’re just there to eat.

We’re not celebrating any particular occasion. Siguro, celebrate life itself. Just enjoying the cool Tagaytay breeze, relaxing.

Chef Paul joined us at our table and kwentuhan kami about a variety of topics including politics which was bad news. I don’t want to paint a doom and gloom scenario because we love this country and all we want to see is for the Philippines to be as prosperous as it can be. But at the rate things are going, we should all have a plan B. And what is that? Let’s learn how to plant camote, sayote, patatas, sili, kamatis, luya, sitaw, upo, talong, okra. Mag-alaga rin ng manok para libreng itlog at tinola.

Talking about politics made me crave for something sweet so I ordered pineapple carpaccio with ice cream. That was a good dinner. Good food, good company, good conversation. Relaxing night.
