I wasn’t sure if I could make it to the first death anniversary celebration of Mrs. Lydia Maycacayan in Binangonan. Matet said there’s a mass at 4 pm so I responded right away that there’s no way I could make it earlier than 7 pm.
I think I was the last to arrive, at 8:30 pm. But meron pa akong inabutan.
As soon as I arrived, Matet said “oh picture muna”.

Seated on the floor, Auring Maaba who shuttles back and forth to LA. She’s a retired nurse and stays in Binangonan half of the time.

This is so good. The brown puto is my favorite. I prefer the rice puto not the ones made from flour.
Nung maliit ako, every 5 am, merong naglalako, sumisigaw ng put………..ooooooooooooooooo, kut…………………………ta!
Takbuhan na, pasan-pasan nya yung lalagyan, tapos tinitimbang yung puto. Tapos binibilang na lang. That was so good.
Matet gave me baon of one plate of bibingka.

I’m not fond of dinuguan pero ang daming kong nakain, masarap ang luto nila.

Auring arrived from LA last Saturday.
I am not going to tell you how much the monthly pension of Auring is kasi baka ma-depress tayo at bawal mangutang. Libangan nya daw ay casino. She donates her pension to Thunderbird. Karamihang sa taga America dibersyon nila ang casino. Kahit ipatalo nila isang buwang pera nila, meron pa silang matatanggap next month. Tayong mga kasambaho, hindi natin pwedeng gawin yan. Kain lang sa mga restaurants, pwede, pero wak tayo sugal.
Auring has been divorced na daw for 20 years yata. She was married to a guy from a well-off family in Angono.
She said she has never re-married after her divorce, kasi ayaw na nyang meron syang aalagaan. She told us that she’s had foreigner boyfriends but didn’t consider getting married again. Ayaw daw nya sa mga Filipino. Question: bakit ayaw ni Auring sa mga Filipino?
