I’ve been going over the names of Makati Ford’s plantilla since monday.
A medium-sized car dealership normally has 60 to 80 employees. Based on our current list of staff, we have one hundred plus the security guards, plus the drivers. That’s top heavy. With our present volume of business, we are over-staff by twenty percent.
Going over the names one by one is difficult. It pains me to think that some positions would be eliminated. So far, only 5 are excess and redundant. For some reason, when I look at the names, there’s always a justification why I should keep this individual. But keeping them needs a corresponding revenue to pay for their keep. They should excel and give value to their presence here.
Today, I tried to let go of one person. I’ve given him a notice in March but he asked for a month extension to prove his worth. Since sobra nga kami, it’s time to reduce. He asked for another month extension. He’s such a nice fellow that I couldn’t say no to his request. He’s trying his best but maybe his best is not enough.
I am so considerate and compassionate, I should have been a doctor of medicine instead.
Yesterday I spent almost two hours listening to one of our female staff’s personal problems. I called her into my room to tell her that I don’t like employees who refuse parallel transfers. Although I fully understand the reason, pero just the same bad shot sa akin pag tumatanggi.
She explained to me the reason which brought the topic to her personal problems.
She cried a river kaya I offered my bag of tissues, kala ko mauubos nya.
From my point of view, I knew an easy solution to her problems but syempre from her perspective, napaka hirap ng kanyang problema. After she broke-up with her boyfriend, she hanged-out with a friend of hers. After 4 months they stopped seeing each other. On the 5th month, she found out she’s pregnant. She doesn’t see herself marrying this man and he also is not ready to take the big responsibility of having a wife. I can’t tell you the whole story. I just wish that she’s able to sort out her plans. Her problem is not that big.
There’s a female employee that’s also under review. I gave her some written questions to answer so I could give her a chance to prove that she’s making some progress.
I asked her what’s the #1 thing she should do to be an asset to our company.
She answered:
I think the #1 that I should do to make an asset to uor company is to be a efficient employee & why? Because if you are a efficient employee you are a productive.
Amen.
I am in need of a personal assistant. I interviewed an applicant last monday.
I noticed she’s tall. Baka kako instead of a personal assistant, maybe I can put her in the showroom.
A———— “How tall are you?”
Applicant—- “Only 5’6″ not very tall”.
A———— “Pandak ka pala”.
Applicant—- “Yes, I am the only short in our family. My brother is very six”.
A———— “Where did you work before?”
Applicant—- “Yes mam, I work in hotel, I work receptoonist”.
A———— “Which hotel? Sa front desk ka ba?”
Applicant—- “Hotel mam, in the province. I am multi skill”.
A———— “How old are you?” Are you married?”
Applicant—- “32, I am vverrrryy single, single alone. Kaya I come to Manila”.
Why did she emphasize her being single? Naku, parang natakot ako sa purpose nya dito sa Manila. Work or man?
Hahaha your interview with applicants never fail to make me laugh mam. Tama ba english ko?
