When I came back from Europe, my daughter reported that driver J hasn’t showed up for almost three weeks. I contacted him and asked what happened. He said his younger son died of dengue. He asked if he could still work for me, “mam, pwede pa ba akong bumalik?” I said yes.
I’ve been busy buying relief goods, in out of the groceries, and he probably got tired.
He skipped work without notice.
He, apparently wasn’t able to get his salary from our finance head because she was busy packing relief goods the day before.
When I messaged him, he said:
No money kasi d ako napaswelduhan kahapon. Namatayan na nga kami’y binitin pa ang sahod ng taong mahirap. D po kami nagkakalayo sa mga tao sa Leyte.
My reply:
Wow, grabe naman ang statement mo, para ka namang inapi ni Camille. Hamo, tatawagan ko sya ngayon para mabayaran ka agad kahit hindi pa araw ng sweldo, para hindi ka na kailangang bumalik at medyo mahirap ang trabaho dito, maghahakot uli ako ngayon ng mga de lata. Salamat J….
I told Camille to give him his salary, to scrap his advances, 13th month and give him extra even if he’s just been here for maybe 3 months, intermittently pa.
