Atopic Dermatitis - Oh My buhay

My son is suffering from asthma of the skin or atopic dermatitis. This has frustrated all of us because it just refuses to go away. He had asthma of the skin early on but starting a few months go, some rashes appeared on his face, near his lips.

It would disppear then appear, off and on. I asked our family doctor to recommend a very good skin specialist. We went to her clinic in Greenhills. My kids saw her once a week and each time she would prescribe a new set of concoctions that could only be bought from her clinic. I think most if not all dermatologists do this. They mix this and that, from lotions, creams, antibiotics, to soaps, etc. and sell to their patients.

The rashes on my son’s face worsened instead of having only one small asthma spot near his lips, dumami pa. I told him to stop using the concoctions prescribed by the derma.

His friends recommended another derma named Dra. Sylvia Huang. In the beginning, she also gave my son a lot of mixtures, but after that, we told her we didn’t want any of those anymore because they didn’t work. Currently my son goes to her clinic once a week to check any progress. She prescribed Prednisone, a steroid which makes us all worried. Yes, the rashes would clear while my son is on medication, but as soon as he finishes the dosage, the rashes come back with a vengeance immediately the following day.

I am so sad and have spent a lot of sleepness night worrying about this. I just couldn’t accept and believe that there is no cure for this. I spoke to my Kuya Junior, a retired physician from Kaiser Medical Center, he said my son cannot continue taking the steroid for more than a month or else his bones could soften.

Edmund spent time last night surfing for any information on natural cure, pero wala. When DOH announced that the tawa-tawa herb that is being tested for contra-dengue is also good for eczema, Edmund wasted no time in looking for it and we now have some planted in two pots. But the efficacy of this herb has not yet been established and I am afraid to make by son drink the tea from tawa-tawa until it’s been determined that there’s no bad side effect.

My daughter Julienne, while we were waiting at the derma’s clinic.

My son Marvin, I noticed his tsinelas were so big on his feet. He bought it without checking the size.

  1. Ma’am Anne,

Did youe hear na po ba about First Vita Plus? Yun po iniinom nmn sa Team when I was Playing pa. Herbal juice drink po yun, walang side effect kaya naglakas loob na po akong irecommnend. Pure vegetables po yun but it tasted good naman. Pwede nyo po ipatry kay Ms.jullien yun, Approved naman po yun ng BFAD and ng diffrent Accreditation Body. Kung pwede nga po yun ang gawing water ni Ms. Jullien. Sana po makatulong yun.

    Thank you po,

  3. My son suffered from skin asthma, d same case with your son, i’m tired of looking for a remedy, until my husband accompanied an inspector from FDA to checked Chinese Drugstores in Binondo and Sta. Cruz, the owner of Mandarin Drugstore recommended to him BL Compound Ketoconazole Cream, the other writingsbisin Chinese, so far he is satisfied with the result. You can check in Mandarin Drugstore Galleria if they have stock there. My son even stopped his schooling becoz his face is more affected, i knew the sufferings, kht sa mag tatawas at manbabarang dinala ko xa kc me nagsabe bk kinulam, hehehe, kc wala namang mawawala, just to helped him from his sufferings, ang hirap pero kht papaano nde katulad dati ka severe ung alergies nya today, maybe u can try..

  4. Hi ma’am. This may be too late but worth the try. Have you seen Dr. Jamora? Her clinic is located at Makati Med and one in Batangas St, in makati near cash and carry. He’s the best derma I know. Wala pa pumalya sa mga recommendations ko sknya. 🙂

  5. hi! Try dr bernardita ortiz policarpio. She or her brother dr joseph ortiz has been my doctor for my psoriasis since 2005. They have a clinic in medical ciyy. They specialize in skin diseases and i can say that their treatments and medicines are advanced- before the introduction of phototherapy in st lukes, they already had a machine for this. Same as your son, i have been diagnosed with psoriasis since i was 4 years old. I had been to numerous dermatologists but their limited exposure to skin diseases as opposed to the usual skin problems like pimples had made my parents and i frustrated. Until i came upon dr. Ortiz. I go to her whenever the cold season is approaching for maintenance/ prevention. Try her or her brother. Ive seen kids with asthma of the skin going to her clinic. Also, psoriasis and asthma of the skin are in some ways similar.

      1. Dear Maya,

I don’t remember consulting with Dr. Manuel Canlas for my son’s skin problems.
Sorry I don’t know if he is really good.

  8. My 4 month old son was diagnosed with atopic dermatitis too by an Alergologist. Just wwondering if you were able to go to any of the dermatologists? Would love to hear how your son’s condition is now? Is he better?

    1. Hi Croq,

We’ve been to many dermatologists and allergologists but none offered permanent cure. His condition is still the same, there are better days, there are very bad days. When he gets break-outs, he has to apply steroid cream. He also takes steroid tablets. Two OMB readers suggested taking Briggs Apple Cider. So far we don’t see an improvement. The best way so far is to keep the skin clean all the time.

  9. Drink Yakult. Megadose on it. No overdose. My daughter was cured of Atopic Dermatitis after drinking Yakult. This is not Paid Advertising!
