Edmund and his elder brothers Edgar and Edward were sent to Sta. Maria Catholic School to study. Edmund only attended grade 1 in Antique. Although far from their home province of Antique, his parents chose the Sta. Maria Catholic School in Iloilo because it’s a private school, run by Jesuits, has a high standard of education and it offered Chinese subjects.
This is the priest’s house. where Edmund ate a popsicle for the first time in his life. Father Leon saw Edmund, aged 7, and he gave him a popsicle. That was one of the most memorable moments in Edmund’s life. The priest was Father Leon. Our children, Julienne studied in Immaculate Conception Academy and Marvin in Xavier School, both school had the same parish priest…. the same Father Leon that was in Sta. Maria when Edmund was studying there. The very same priest that gave Edmund the popsicle. That’s amazing.
He was so happy to see his alma mater again after 40 years.

Sta. Maria Catholic School was actually a Chinese school. The patron saint is Our Lady of China.
There were old vehicles and old houses around the corner
Edmund showed us the spot where he and his classmates used to play during break time and after school.
This is the end of the short street, Guimaras island could be seen from a distance.
