Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys

We were brought to the Barcelona Olympics Stadium in Montjuic on May 2, 2017 for 10 minutes by Jorge, our tour guide for the day, just to take a peek and take a few photos.

Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys, formerly known as the Estadi Olímpic de Montjuïc and Estadio de Montjuic is the stadium in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain, which was originally built in 1927 for the 1929 International Exposition.

In 2001 the stadium was renamed after the former president of the Generalitat de Catalunya Lluís Companys, who was executed in 1940 at the Montjuïc Castle by the Franco regime.

On the background is the Olympics Cauldron. At the 1992 Summer Olympics opening ceremony, Paralympian archer Antonio Rebollo shot a flaming arrow from afar over a natural gas cauldron to ignite it.
