I feel obligated to buy fish from practically all the vendors at the fish port (pritil) in Binangonan.
Vendor———“Annie, hindi ka sa akin bumili ng tilapia”.
Omb————-“Nakabili na ako”.
Vendor———“Bilhan mo rin ako”.
Omb————“Sige dalawang kilo”.
Vendor———“Salamat”.
Vendor #2——“Hindi na lang sa akin bumili”.
Omb————“Sige dalawang kilo”.
Vendor #2——“Hindi pa dagdagan. Lahat na ito”.
Omb————“Sige lahat na yan”.
Vendor #3——“Mam! Mam! Magaganda ang bangus ko”.
Omb————“Marami na akong nabili”.
Vendor #3——“Bumili ka rin sa akin”.
Omb————“Sige limang kilo”.
Driver———“Mam, puno na yung cooler natin”.
I also bought fresh tiny shrimps (hipon) for OKOY. I taught Antonia how to make the traditional okoy, hindi yung puro corn starch.
These fish vendors are not poor. With their earnings, they are able to send their children through good schools in Manila. Buying from them is multi-purpose. I get to save money because the prices of their fish are cheaper. Our household staff are busog everyday. I help support hundreds of fisherman and those who earn from this trade– kargadero, magyeyelo, boatmen, etc. I contribute to the vendors’ earnings so they are able to live a comfortable life and send their children and grandchildren to school.
I love how you support the small businesses. It would be easier to include that in your grocery shopping sa SM or Rustan’s pero mayayaman na suppliers dun.
