One could never be prepared for Meralco-less night. No matter how we abhor their “higher and higher” monthly electric bills, our daily comfort depend on them.
We are urban creatures na, ilaw, bentilador, aircon.

Last Friday around 7 pm, as soon as Edmund and I entered our village gate, the lights went off. Huh? I thought our vehicle’s headlights went bust.

We asked the village guards but they said there was no advise from Meralco. And they (Meralco) couldn’t commit what time they would be able to restore electricity. Basta daw they’re fixing something. Hay Malabo.

We went out of the gate again and headed for Edmund’s sastre. There were lights in EDSA, so kami lang walang ilaw? I also could see the taller buildings around us and they too had lights. Some even have Christmas lights already.

The sastre was closed so we went back home. Problem kasi I removed all candles from our house kasi nga takot na ako. My battery operated candles were all out of batteries. Luckily, we had one LED flashlight that’s still fully charged.

Lights came back after half hour. Isa-isa ko na namang niligpit yung mga ilaw. Then at 8 pm, black out again— for 3 1/2 hours.
I fell asleep intermittently. I woke up perspiring all over. Even if the windows were open and I could hear the wind blowing and the gentle swaying of trees. It was still so hot and humid.
Electricity came back at exactly 11:30 pm. I switched on the ref and the other appliances.

What disappointed me most was I missed Gerald Anderson and Dawn Zulueta’s teledrama on Channel 2. They’re aired around 9:40 pm.
