Even some cabinet members are already joking about Duterte’s favorite lingo, Fu Tang Na. This was forwarded to me today.

Hearing the same expressions over and over again will consciously and subconsciously affect us in a negative way. Tsk tsk. Not good at all.

When I was growing up in Binangonan, it was common to hear some people say bad words. Not when they are fighting or are angry, but when they are fondly expressing something as a reaction. For example, nagulat sila or ginulat mo. “Ay putang ina”. Even when I knew it was being said like an exclamation point to a sentence, at a young age I knew in my mind that it was not a good way to express oneself so I vowed not to assimilate that. It was a conscious effort on my part not to be like them.

Our populace now is bombarded with this bad expression. On tv, on the radio, online news, in person. The challenge is how to deflect the negativity that comes with those words. This is the time to bring out our “self-discipline and self-worth. Ang tawag dyan nung araw “ilabas ang sarili mong bait”. Let’s try our best not to liken bad words. It could sink in our brains and before we knew it, we could be acting accordingly.

Mga kababayan, let’s choose to be good.
