I joined a complimentary whole day tour for non- golfers. A Scottish driver who also acted as our tour guide drove 2 hours from St. Andrews to Glamis Castle (pronounced as glams)
I didn’t know what to expect and had absolutely no idea where the tour guide and
van driver named Craig, was bringing us.
Two hours later, we entered a gate and a long and straight driveway.
Craig said the Glamis Castle is tops on their tour rating. This is the second most visited castle in Scotland, next to Edinburgh Castle.
I got excited when I learned that this was where Queen Elizabeth grew up. Her grandfather, who was the 13th Earl, inherited the Glamis Castle.
The castle sits on a 14,000 acre estate in Angus, Scotland, it is now owned by the 18th heir, Michael Bowes Lyon, second cousin of The Queen, and Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne.
This area used to be a hunting lodge in 1372. Construction of the castle started in 1404 and finished in 1420.
Certain parts of the castle are rented out for corporate events, weddings, grand receptions and other parties. Do you want to spend a night here? Merong multo according to the tour guide.
