Good Friday in America

April 10, 2020

I don’t remember ever spending Byernes Santo (Good Friday) here in America.

I feel something is lacking or there is something I have to do.  I look at the clock and in my subliminal, I really feel I have someplace else to go.  Good Friday to me is going to our town,  either joining in the town procession or distributing drinking water to thousands of parishioners, giving out bread, ice candy, and thousands of white towels to the Giwang-giwang devotees.  I feel like something is missing today.

We are not going to church today.  I am praying silently.

Still eating when supposed to be fasting:

Lunch menu :

sardinas
I removed the bones from the bigger fish that came ffrom the Hokkaido can. I left the little ones.

I wasn’t sure if my daughter eats sardines so I cooked gyoza for her.

For our dinner,  I cooked rice and fried the three remaining daing na bangus.  I also cooked clam chowder soup. I couldn’t resist putting several slices of black truffles.

Last night Oyen ordered some grocery items and a box of Mexican popsicles from Smart & Final except that they delivered the one with chocolate coating.  I prefer the ones without chocolate but this is okay also.

My manicure from March 14 needs some attention.  My dry skin too.

Aileen’s birthday is today and aside from greetings on Messenger and Viber, I gave her a call to greet her. She is now fifty plus plus plus plus plus years old. I am older by 2 years and 10 1/2 months. She looks 45.

I suggested that we all watch the movie The Two Popes. Edmund and I had seen this movie a few days ago and I wanted to watch it again this time together with Oyen and Nyke. There are some good that they could learn from this movie.

Anthony Hopkins and Jonathan Pryce were both great in their portrayals as Pope Benedict XVI  and Pope Francis.   This movie was inspired by true events.

As practicing Catholics, this movie gives us a glimpse on the life of the pope, how the cardinals  choose a pope’s successor, the tremendous pressure and solitude experienced by a pope, what goes on in his mind, etc.

We all enjoyed watching and there were some scenes that I didn’t notice the first time like when the pope ate pizza and drank Fanta orange.
I encourage you all especially if you’re a Roman Catholic to watch this movie. Or even if you’re not but if you believe in God, then this is a good one to spend your 1 hour and 40 minutes.

Sometimes we pray and try to talk to God but we don’t know if He hears us or if He listens. Just the other day I saw on Facebook a question if God is sleeping now because so many have died due to the pandemic and many more are sick and financially suffering. I don’t know the answer. I just pray and believe. That’s all I have now. I have no power over what’s happening around me. I am just holding on to my faith that God will protect me and my family, and all of you too. That this suffering and danger will come to an end very soon and all of us can start enjoying our freedom again. Freedom to live with peace of mind.
