Ed and I we’re schoolmates. He’s such a jolly person and offered help to anyone and everyone.
Last Sunday morning at 3 am, while driving his Honda Civic on his way home to Bulacan, he accidentally hit a motorcycle. He tried to steer his car away from the motorcycle but hit a post. He sustained heavy injuries and was unconscious when brought to a hospital somewhere in Quezon City. His operation was supposed to be successful but on Wednesday morning, he died in the ICU. His wife didn’t have the chance to speak to him.
Ed, 52, was nice and sincere, laging naka bungisngis.
He was scheduled to conduct a tax seminar here in our office for our accounting group. Since Ed is an authority when it comes to correct tax applications and interpretations, I requested him to come and teach our people.
He gave me a copy of his book on taxation with a dedication.
Instead of going to the wake in the evening, I left the office at 5 pm to beat the traffic. I thought it would be a 15 minute trip, yun pala traffic already.
There were several MRT trains that whizzed by, I didn’t know if I would envy those commuters because they were traveling faster, but the way they’re smooched together, para silang dilis an dikit na dikit, bigla akong naawa and I suddenly felt appreciation sitting by myself at the back of the van even if it’s heavy traffic.
Sana we order additional commuter trains, kawawa naman ang mga sumasakay. Ang dami sigurong namo-molestya habang nasa train, male and female. Ladies, pag merong nambastos sa inyo, do not fear, sumigaw at kalmutin mo sa mukha.
Guys, huwag maniakis ha?
Prof. Noli Santos and companions were already at the St. Ignatius Funeral Homes near Camp Crame in Santolan when I arrived. They came in two cars.
That’s Carol, the wife of Ed. Ed married late na pala, he was 33 and Carol was only 21. They have 5 children 18 years old is the eldest and an only girl, 6.
I asked Carol where she works, she’s a full time housewife. I asked if they have other income, wala daw. Ang napundar lang daw nila ay bahay.
Ed’s sister who works in Japan would help out according to her.
The ladies in yellow were office mates of Ed at the BIR.
Prof Noli’s (75) is prayerful and has deep religious beliefs. He’s a believer of the miracles of Our Lady of Lourdes. His sugat daw on his left foot didn’t want to heal for 8 months. It cleared a few days after he poured the holy water from Lourdes.
He also had a tumor or cyst in his prostate. But after he drank the water from Lourdes, the next time he had a check-up, the doctor couldn’t find the tumor anymore. I also found myself listening to his stories about what went wrong with his labing-labing with his wife.
Prof. Noli and his companions and I left the wake at the same time. We made the mistake of passing thru EDSA, there was some super heavy traffic.
From the wake, I went to Rustan’s grocery muna.
Pagdating sa bahay galing sa patay, take off all your clothes, take a bath.
I had dinner alone. Masarap to eat with bare hands.
My daster is like a tissue paper, sobrang nipis, bagay sa init.
