Manila- HK-Guangzhou

Our Flight from Manila on the morning of April 15, 2012 took off on time at 8:15 am. We landed in HK at 10 am and cleared thru the immigration by 10:30 and at 10:45 am we’re in the van that would supposedly take us to a two and a half hour road trip to Guangzhou, China.

As far as I can remember, arrival in HK has always been this busy.

There are several stalls selling bus and train tickets to Guangzhou. The buses are just right outside the airport doors.

We paid RMB 250 each for the ride. The lady at the transport section said the van would only stop once instead of passing through 3 border inspections and hopping on and off the bus. Edmund willingly paid extra for this comfort because in the past, going thru the borders was really tiring and confusing.

We rode in the van together with two Polish executives and a Chinese executive. At first the ride was smooth and comfortable. Then after about an hour, we reached the Shenzen police
checkpoint. When our vehicle stopped while waiting for the barrier to lift, a loud alarm sounded. We were made to bring our luggage down and into the security office and onto the

security xray machine. We waited for more than an hour and it was past 1 pm before they
allowed us to board the van. Edmund and I went to their two cubicle M/F toilet. I didn’t want to. I was really hesitant but our destination is still far and I might not be able to hold off my pee.

Edmund—- Oano, kaya mo bang pigilin? Malayo pa tayo. Kaya mo bang mag squat?
Me——– ehbutas ang pinto o
Edmund—– dito ka sa isa, may tissue ka ba?
Me——– Oh my God ang bantot naman
I almost threw up, bumaligtat ang sikmura ko.

We boarded a bigger bus that continued our journey into Mainland China. The van was only up to the HK/China border.
We reached Guangzhou at 3 pm feeling so tired, sticky and my head aching. We took a cab to the hotel that I booked online. The taxi driver couldn’t find it because it was small. Even before we entered, we already disliked it. The photos on their website looked nicebut the actual is not. We checked-in and went up to our room. I called the American Express travel service office in the USA to get us a nice hotel.
The International Exhibition or popularly called Canton Fair has started and most hotels are already fully booked but luckily Amex was able to get a room for us at the Ritz Carlton,a member of the Leading Fine Hotels of the World.
