Gyu-Kaku - Oh My Buhay

When my son and I were deciding on where to eat two saturdays ago, Gyu-Kaku was one of those he mentioned. He said there’s a new Korean restaurant in Shangri-la. When Nyke and I went, I thought Gyu-Kaku was Japanese. We were not able to get a table because they were either reserved or occupied, we went to Chops instead.

Last Saturday, the whole family dined there. Immediately after we left the church, Oyen called to reserve a table. We almost didn’t make it because traffic around the Megamall area was bad.

We let Oyen and Nyke choose.

Gyu-Kaku, Wagyu beef

Parang I liked Tofu at first glance but I canceled my order after two minutes.

Nyke was right, Gyu-kaku is Korean too. He ordered chapche noodles.
The portion was smaller than other Korean restaurants. We found it too soft and saucy.

Oyen ordered Chicken Udon. While mine’s seafood. They tasted and looked the same. They used the same sauce base, similar to the taste of their chapche too.

If I happen to come back here, I would most likely just order this udon.

Seafood udon, Gyukaku

Edmund’s order was a total disappointment. At P495 ++ for a tiny bowl of sukiyako don (beef strips with rice) (I forgot how it’s called), it’s not worth the money.
The minute the waiter brought it to our table, I complained already “Ang konti”. Our joke is now Gyu-kaku is appetizer, we can always eat outside for our main courses.

Another big disappointment was the Karubi soup Nyke ordered. For P425 ++, totally not worth it.

My children would probably try this restaurant again in the future and order something else.

I don’t see Edmund coming back here again. The reality is, when we dine as a family, we give a lot of weight to what Edmund wants. We don’t go back to a restaurant he didn’t like, and Gyu-kaku could be one of those. Sometimes, if my kids and I like a restaurant contrary to his, we go back one more time, he agrees naman to give it a second try but usually that’s it. Second and last.
