Yen’s husband flew in from the Bay Area. They invited me to join them for a sushi somewhere in Spring Mountain. When we reached the restaurant, it looked familiar. Yun pala, the Korean BBQ Edmund and I ate one time was on the second floor of this Kaya Sushi.
The couple ordered unlimited Sushi. I had chicken teriyaki. I didn’t want unlimited, hindi ko naman masusulit.
Yen and I had Hot & Juicy the day before. She ate very little rice kasi daw she was not fond of rice. I told her all the sushi have rice.
They started as friends. When they kissed, sparks flew according to Yen. A bird also flew kasi after a few months she got pregnant. Both of them were 18 years old when they had their first baby. That was 27 years ago.
Yen was a successful finance consultant in the Silicon Valley area. She retired at the age of 39 after her youngest son, 5, was diagnosed with cancer of the blood. She told me her son shared a hospital room with a Filipino boy who also had cancer but sadly didn’t survive. Yen’s son is now 18 years old and healthy.
