When I went to Dr. Palafox yesterday afternoon, I told him that my sugar level has breached the maximum limit for pre-diabetics and is now sadly hoving around the “true diabetes” group. Thanks to halo-halo, vanilla ice cream, coke and platters of hot steaming rice.
He gave me a prescription to take for 60 days to lower my blood sugar. He also sent me to the laboratory upon my insistence to randomly check my sugar level.
The nurse at the registration counter asked me if I had eaten. I sad I had brunch 6 hours ago and just had a glass of water before coming to the hospital. She advised me to go eat first then come back after two hours impunto.
I went to the hospital canteen and had a bowl of lugar na malamig na wala pang laman.
I went back to the lab lounge with the intention to hang around till 6:20 pm. But I was feeling dizzy from the x-ray procedure. I decided to go home and take a nap or at least have a more comfortable rest.
I left Cardinal Santos Hospital at 5:05 pm, arrived home at 5:35 pm. Rested for 25 minutes and went back to Cardinal. I arrived at the lab at exactly 6:18 pm. Two vials of blood was extracted from me. When I asked the medtech wheh I could get the results, she said 4 hours.
I sent our driver this morning at 10:30 and he ame back with nothing. He told me the results would be due after 24 hours. Yun pala he went to the x-ray department, not to the laboratory.
I sent him back again. This time there was several confusions. I was told that I needed to go back to the lab to have my blood extracted again. They asked me who took my blood, who was at the counter, etc. Hindi ko naman tinanong ang mga pangalan nila. I told the girl on the other line that I didn’t know, di ba sila ang may alam nun? “It should be in your records”. I called, they called, I called, they called. Admitting that it’s their fault, they offered to come to our house to take my blood.
Hospital staff—–“Mam, saan po ba kayo nakatira?”
“Alam ba ng driver nyo ang address?”
A—–“Driver namin sya, siguro naman alam nya”.
A—–“You have to tell me the specific time you’re coming here”.
Before 12 noon daw.
E—–“O bakit ano’ng nangyari?”
A—–“E nagkamali sila. Dapat pagdating ko sa lab, they took by blood, then after two hours, another extraction. Ang sabi kumain daw ako muna. Dapat, before I ate, they should have taken my blood”.
A—–“Teka, maliligo ako”.
E—–“Baki ka pa maliligo eh kukunan ka lang ng blood?”
A—–“Ay hindi ako nakaayos (I was in duster)”.
E—–“Baka naman mag-make up ka pa?”

In less than an hour, Jericha Adriano or Jayjay, a 32 year old senior medical technologist at the Cardinal Santos Hospital arrived at our house with her mga karayom and vials. She took one vial of blood sample and promised she would expedite the results.
Medyo nahihiya, I forced her to drink a glass of ice cold coke and I also gave her two paper bags of milk and papaya soaps containing twenty pieces. I told her to give some to her work mates at the lab.
It hurt a lot. Yesterday I had two injections. Both painful. Sigh.
Miss Annie, why do you have unlimited supply of milk and papaya soaps? 🙂
