My sister was the one who chose the Hotel Room Mate Mario in Madrid, Spain upon the recommendation of her close friend Reggie who’s been living in Madrid for 30 years. It’s a boutique hotel located right in the center of the tourist area and close to the cathedral.
We were in the US when Aileen was making the booking. I’ve been really occupied and I didn’t have the time or the interest to look for a hotel till after a week before our flight to Lisbon.
My sister was worried I wouldn’t like the hotel. I looked at the photos on line and parang okay naman. I was so engrossed attending to other things and looking for a hotel was the least of my concern. Since she booked at this hotel, it would not be nice if Edmund and I would stay in a different hotel far from them. I just booked the biggest room available at Hotel Room Mate Mario to make sure.
She and Bong arrived in Madrid one day ahead of us and they had trouble with the room airconditioning. Sobra daw mainit and she advised me to look for another hotel. Edmund was so worried that he wanted to cancel our reservation at the Room Mate Mario and transfer to Hyatt located at the main shopping street called Gran Via. I told him let’s go there first, spend one night kung pangit or mainit then it’s very easy to transfer to another hotel. I’ve fully paid for the 5 nights stay and the hotel would not refund our money. He was already thinking of skipping Madrid. Mainit na daw, mainit pa air con, marami pang mandurukot, bakit pa kami pupunta?
The boutique hotel is located in a narrow but quiet street and the moment we entered the small lobby, I thought it was okay. It was painted black and red, not my style but it looked very decent. The staff were okay too.
When we saw the room, it passed our criteria. It’s huge and nicely appointed. Quiet too and cold! The air conditioning was functioning well but Edmund and I were still wary baka biglang uminit.
Room Mate Mario Hotel was our home from June 23 to 28 and we had a comfortable stay. My sister was relieved when we told her we liked the hotel. Len and Bong moved to a different room on their second night where the air conditioning was cold. They too enjoyed their stay at this hotel from June 22 to 26.
This is not a luxury hotel but it’s not cheap either. It provided us a safe and comfortable place to stay in Madrid. It’s in a very good location, walking distance to souvenir and gift shops and restaurants. I don’t mind staying here again.
