I recently made a merchandise purchase in another country using my American Express credit card. When it was swiped, the store manager told me my card was rejected because the amount was over my credit card limit. I doubted it and I suspected she probably keyed-in a wrong amount. I asked to speak to the card’s officer on the other line. He gave me the US dollar equivalent of the amount that’s being charged based on the current foreign exchange rate and he said all I needed to do was to okay it. So I said “yes, that is the amount”.
Yesterday, I received my bill and the amount charged was way over the converted total that the Amex guy told me on the phone. The statement of account showed that I was overcharged by $502.66.
I am glad American Express accepts collect calls from outside of North America, I was able to speak to them this morning free of telephone charges. This particular customer service group is based in Ft. Lauderdale in Florida and they acknowledged that there’s seem to be a five hundred dollar over charge. My bill is due on October 22, 2016 and they graciously removed the overcharge. That is only a temporary gesture, they will conduct an investigation in a couple of weeks and would come up with a resolution if it was indeed an overcharge or if it was a valid charge.
If they come back to me and say it’s a valid charge, then Houston, we may have a problem. I certainly do not want and will not pay extra $500.
Curious lang madam. Iba iba kasi naririnig ko. How is AMEX correctly pronounced, AH-MEX or EY-MEX?

Hi Yuni,
AMEX is short for American Express therefore it must be pronounced the way we pronounce America. AH-Merica.
We don’t say Eymerica. So the correct pronunciation of Amex is Ahmex.
Tnx Ms. Annie. Ganyan din nasa isip ko e. Sure naman ako sa sarili ko na AH-MEX. Dati! 🙂 Pero i keep hearing some people pronouncing it as EY-MEX. Na confuse tuloy ako na baka ako pa ang mali at magmukhang jologs. Hehe. Salamat!
