When someone says he/she doesn’t care about what other people think of him/her, that’s fair. He/she could be referring to persons he/she doesn’t give importance to because they could be mere strangers or old acquaintances. But when someone says he/she doesn’t care about what you think, then that means he/she doesn’t give a damn about how you feel because he/she looks at you in the same breath as the other people. It’s unfair and insulting to be lumped up in the same category as with the insignificant others. It’s a frank admission that you two are actually strangers to each other.
