Our friends Dennis and Sylvia have been spending Christmas in Strasbourg and New Year in Paris.  They’ve been inviting me and Edmund to join them.   We would love to but our schedules don’t align.  This December,  I thought of going to Strasbourg and then flying from Paris to the US in time for Christmas.   But there was a 14- day quarantine restriction imposed by the US for those traveling from Europe.  I dropped the idea and decided we would just do it next year.   After Edmund had bought our tickets to the US,  the US removed the travel restriction and travelers can now fly directly from Europe to the US.  Ay sayang nakabili na kami ng tickets.

A male acquaintance once told me that he finds all this Christmas decorating and preparations boring and tiring. According to him, he’s so bored doing this every year. Spending hours hanging ornaments and hours again removing them after the holidays. All the partying could be chaotic and not relaxing. He said he prefers to spend the holidays in quiet solitude. Nothing wrong with that.

I feel the opposite. I am sure my excitement in celebrating the holidays is shared by billions of people from around the world.
We should never get bored celebrating Christmas. Some people say it’s only for children. No, Christmas is for all of us. We should not lose our childlike attitude to be amazed, to wonder, to celebrate, otherwise, it is not the season that will become boring. It’s us.
