There is an evident change that is happening in our country and society. We Filipinos are changing and this change is affecting and shaping the character and attitude of the next generation. Kawawa ang bukas.
We have become hateful, nasty, disrespectful, vindictive, fault finders.
We want to kill some innocent but clumsy person for accidentally scratching a tiny speck on our car.
We threaten to sue people for things that are trivial.
People strut around feeling entitled. Ang yayabang nating lahat. May pera man tayo o wala. We all feel invincible. Powerful. I will kill you. Ipapapatay kita. Even janitors threaten workmates who step on the floor with dirty shoes. Babarilin kita.
We flare up without provocation. Galit tayo sa mundo. We all act like spoiled brats or thugs.
We’ve all become bullies. We gang-up on the weak and gullible.
We confuse smartness with shrewdness.
We no longer know what is petty and what deserves our time and attention.
We not know the true meaning of prinsipyo (principle). We have misplaced egos and prides. Humility is fast disappearing from our virtues.
We suffer from boredom. Even three year olds complain “I’m bored”. We want things done in one click. We have lost our patience to everything. Even to our loved ones.
We are all suffering from attention deficit disorders. We cannot sit still without our fully charged gadgets. We no longer look in each other’s eyes when conversing because we look into our Phone screens. We are losing our ability to connect, person to person, manually, truthfully.
Our thoughts are drowned by a multitude of things in our heads. We are losing our sense of hearing, and our capacity to listen.
All of us seem to be in a hurry. When someone speaks to us, we don’t look and listen. We can’t wait for the person to finish. We cut, butt-in, and say “Yah I hear you. I know what you’re saying”.
We don’t allow others to speak, and yet we have grown to speak our minds. We like to give unsolicited advice in the most intensely detestable manner. We no longer watch our words.
We don’t run out of horrible things to say to others. We don’t mince words, calling people mga demonyo, kampo ka ni satanas, kapal ng mukha, and all those despicable words which obviously show that you are the satanas and not the other person.
We take pride in displaying our dark side. We mistake arrogance with forthrightness.
We are so angry at our lives that we find every opportunity to pour out our hatred to just about anything.
We used to be proud PIs (Philippine Islanders). Ngayon, mga Putang Ina na tayong lahat.
Pilipinas BAKIT?
Ano ang nangyari?
Kailan tayo nagsimulang maging ganito?
I leave you this video WORN from Tenth Avenue North.
AMEN. I agree with you Ms. Annie.
Our leaders should lead by example properly. Who will the youth emulate? Looks like you’re also becoming bothered and distraught by recent events.
I remember that scene in El Filibusterismo when Simoun was talking to Basilio and it was said: “Walang mang-aalipin kung walang paaalipin.”
I pity our children Ms. Annie and our children’s children =( I hope I can raise them well despite the noise, unkindness, vulgarities and the disrespect surrounding us.
The new generation will have a very different culture than my generation. My mom used to say, “malakas ang impluwensya sa labas”. She was referring to the bad influence me and my siblings were exposed to outside of our home.
