I was hesitant to confirm my attendance at the short talk on women empowerment called Kick Some Glass organized by the Women’s Business Council of the Philippines. It was scheduled from 8 am – 11 am. To make it to Makati at exactly 8 am that means I have to leave our house no later than 6:45 am which also means waking up ahead of Antonia. When my colleague Leah Caringal sent me a private message saying it was okay to come at 9 am instead, I sad okay.
I didn’t want to wear something too formal or a suit. I just thought if I wear heels then I would look a little bit dressed for the occasion.
I am no longer used to wearing anything that’s higher than one inch heels. It’s such an effort to wear even two inches heels.
I arrived at Dusit Hotel at 8:50 am. They have beautiful giant reindeers in the lobby. I still have a few minutes to take photos. I asked my few-days-old aide to take my photo with the reindeer.
A—–“Kunan mo ‘ko ng picture. Yung malapit. Gusto ko kasama eto, etong reindeer”.
Sgt. Rene—-“Yes mam”.
A——“Malinaw ba? Close up?”
A—–“Tingnan ko”.
A—–“Wala namang mga litrato. Hindi mo pinindot. Eto o, dito mo sya pindutin”.
Sgt. Rene—–“Yes mam”.
A—“Okay, ulitin mo”.
A—–“Asan ako dito?”
A—-‘Ulitin mo. Yung kasama ako. Kalapit ng reindeer”.
Sgt Rene—-“Yung reindeer mam”.
A—–“Ako na lang pictyuran mo, huwag na yung reindeer”.
A—–“Tingnan ko, nakapikit ako. ulitin mo”.
A—-“Halika na nga, late na ako”.
I arrived about 10 minutes before the program started. Our guest speaker was Jennifer W. Martineau who wrote “Kick Some Glass.

Praying before the start of every meeting and conference is always included in our programs.
I left home without having breakfast.
The morning event was well attended. Thanks to the persuasive powers of Leah Caringal, Boots Garcia, Monette Hamlin, and all the other women who helped make this gathering a success.
The waiters accidentally collected the pieces of papers where these ladies’ names were written down.

I stayed behind for several minutes to view the improved website of WBCP. We found some more areas that need improvement.
