Krizzy Mendoza's Debut - Oh My Buhay

Krizzy Mendoza’s Debut

It looks like Edmund is the oldest among his golf mates because they still have baptismal parties, children’s party, debut. This is both good and bad. Good because not everyone gets to live up to our age. Bad because the wives of his friends never failed to inquire about my birth calendar and anti aging cream. Whew. I hate those topics.

I am beginning to look and act like a lola although I am not yet a lola. If I can have my way, I’d rather seat quietly and gaze at the moon. Going to formal events is such an effort. Firstly because finding something to weenr is always an agony. Secondly, looking at the mirror wearing the one I have chose to wear is never a pleasant sight, Thirdly, Naiingayan na ako pa merong loud music. At my age, I now prefer huni ng ibon.

Sometime ago, my husband agreed to skip the grand wedding of the son of one of his golf friends. It was held at the Rizal Ballroom of Shangri-la Hotel in Makati. Tila ba lahat na lang ng grand wedding duon ginaganap.

The minute I learned where the reception would be and that the required attire was strictly long gown, ay out na ako. Buti na lang my husband did not insist. I told him sya na lang ang pumunta, umayaw na rin sya. Ayaw ko na sa Rizal Ballroom. Nasawa na ako.

Last Saturday, we attended the debut of Honor Mendoza’s daughter Krizzy at the Blue Leaf. That was also the venue of our 25th wedding anniversary.
Although the invitation said FORMAL I knew I could get away with just a short dress because it’s not going to stiff unlike in a hotel ballroom. Ayaw kong mag-gown, ang init, at saka uupo lang naman ako.

I told my husband, pag debut dapat mga classmates and barkada na lang ng bata ang mga bisita. They would be less inhibited to party. Kahit magsigawan sila at maging rowdy, sila-sila lang. They would enjoy the party more.

We were at table #15.

Det de Leon, her husband Elmer and their kids Bea and Loel, arrived at 9 pm. I think Bea came from her daily training. She plays for the Ateneo Volleyball Varsity team.

At 11 pm, I went to the washroom and took that as an opportunity to rest from the noise outside. It was quiet and cold in the restroom. Paglabas ko sabi nila bakit ang tagal ko. Kung pwede nga lang, matulog na ako dun sa loob. Meron kasing sofa.

I am sorry pero I hated being called to the front to have a photo with the celebrant. Lalo na sa wedding. Ang corny ko talaga and KJ pa.
I was standing between Edmund and Joey Quimzon but Edmund made me move to the front. Good, easier to crop me. Ayan, ‘la na ako.

Krizzy changed gowns four times. This was her first gown.
My daughter had a simple debut party. I spent P3,500 on her gown, We copied the style from a magazine, I bought the fabrics and brought it to the modista, an aunt of my employee back then. That was the only dress she wore throughout.

Thank you to Honor and family for inviting us. The food was good and we had a fairly good time. Congratulations to the debutante.
