After the Ting Hun rituals, we all drove to Greenhills for the lauriat lunch at Xiu along Connecticut in Greenhills, San Juan City. This lunch was hosted by the Yao family.
Traditionally in Ting Hun, the family of the bride hosts the ceremony venue while the groom’s family hosts the luncheon. Depending on how the families want it, in some instances, the ceremony is held in hotels with hundreds of guests. Some rich and big families have as many as 500 guests equivalent to a wedding reception.
In Oyen’s Ting Hun, the guests were only limited to the immediate members of both families.
The Tans and Yees occupied one round table while the Yao’s occupied three.
Bong, Len, Kuya Lito, Dimple, OMB, Edmund, Helen (Edmund’s youngest sibling), Mama Soling,
(standing)- Edgar (Edmund’s eldest sibling), Ericson (Edmund’s nephew). I wish my parents , and Edmund’s father, were still alive to witness the Ting Hun ceremony and eat with us Chinese food!
When the waiter served our soup, he told us it’s sharksfin. No it’s not, the menu says it’s wintermelon soup.
Hot prawn salad
The waiter deboned the lapu-lapu before placing it on the table.
When you order or buy crabs, always count the number of claws. I’ve noticed that it has become a common practice that market vendors remove one claw. Ewan kung inuulam ba nila o itinitinda nila separately. That’s a very unethical practice.

She ate at the groom’s family table, Oyen came to our table only after the meal. Is the mother feeling bad? Kind of. I have to get used to the fact that soon, she will divide her time between two families.

Xiu Restaurant’s elevator was broken so we climbed up and then down three flights of stairs.
Best wishes and Congratulation to your lovely daughter. You have raised a good daughter, son and husband; to God be the glory. After all were created to serve God’s glory and so it is right to put God first in our minds in all that we do.
Thank you Joey. God granted me the privilege of becoming a mother and I hope I didn’t fail HIM. Nyke and Oyen are two very kind, compassionate, generous humans. They are both respectful to the people around them and are concerned even to strangers. I am grateful every single day for HIS guidance and blessings.
