Learn a little English - Oh My Buhay

Nowadays people are crisscrossing the globe. Since English is the more popular language in majority of the countries then try to learn even a little English especially when traveling. Or at least bring a list of most common terms or simple sentences to get you by—– to be able to go back to your hotel, find food, taxi, go back to the airport, etc. Also make a table of dollar equivalent of your money. My sister does this when she travels and it’s very useful.

I took Uber pool back to my hotel. Before dropping me off, the driver went around New York New York Hotel three times supposedly to pick up another passenger named Ane. “I will have two passengers named Ann”.

Me—-“Are you sure it says New York New York Hotel? I don’t see a woman standing holding a phone”.
Driver tried calling her but no answer.
Driver—-“It’s now showing another location. She must be there”.

We drove to the next hotel, made one round and still the passenger named Ane wasn’t there.
Me—-“Call her”.
Driver—“I did but she’s not picking up”.
Driver—-“This is as far as I could go. I am not allowed to pick up along The Strip. I think that’s them”.
Me—–“Those two?”
Driver—-“yeah”.

I spotted two women holding their phones waiting at the bus stop some 30 meters away from where the Uber driver was. I decided to do something so we could just move on.
Me—–“I’ll go get them”.
Driver—–“Oh no, you don’t have to do that”.
I opened the door and ran to the two women. There was a fence so I couldn’t get any closer to them.
Me—–“Hi, Hi, Helloooo. Are you waiting for Uber?”
They looked dazed.
Me—-‘UBERRR”.
They both nodded.
Me—–“Driver is there”.
They followed me.

They couldn’t speak a word in English. The driver was asking where they’re going because he lost the gps signal. They couldn’t even say the name of their hotel or maybe they forgot. Hola, you’re supposed to carry a busines card with the complete address and telefono of your hotel.

They were asking the driver “Espanyol? Espanyol?”
I was tempted to intervene and be the interpreter but I just kept quiet. Pikon ako sa kanila. I pretended not to speak Spanish.
Me llamo usted. Poquito poquita Si. Por Pavor, Por que? Ubos na.

I told the driver to drop me off at the Tuscany Hotel in Flamingo.
When the two ladies heard the word Tuscany, they exclaimed “Si si”.
