I arrived at the house of Medi and Rey Sarmiento in Mendez, Tagaytay City at 10 am. They were already waiting for me at their lanai when I arrived. They would like to come and look at my unfinished cottage house They were bringing their carpenter to see if he could continue the work.
Medi, or Chef Medi to her customers, is the lady behind Nanay Cirila’s, voted as Tagaytay’s Top 5 restaurant. She is not only a good cook, but is also an artist. This is one of her works:
Picture of her mother in law, Nanay Cirila and her old sewing machine. I wonder where my mama’s sewing machine is? It could be somewhere in Binangonan. It would be a good souvenir piece like this one.
After a quick visit to my unfinished cottage house, Medi invited me to have lunch with her. She would like to explore new places specifically restaurants and to try their dishes.
We went to the Deli de San Honore in Barangay Neogan, same road going to the main Antonio’s.
If this restaurant becomes more popular in the near future, parking would be a problem especially if you have no driver.
The house was built by the owner as a vacation house and later decided to open a bakery on weekends. People looked for real food so they started serving meals.
The day we were there, the weather was overcast. Still, it was humid and warm inside the restaurant. The aircon was off and the windows were open but there was no breeze. I was not comfortable. The sun rays were hitting my back and I felt warm. They provided us with a big electric fan but when more people came, syempre agawan sa electric fan.
The owner / chef bakes breads and pastries which are sold at their bakeshop inside the restaurant. Senator Loren Legarda is a suki (regular customer).
Aside from the printed menu, they have a menu board for their weekend special. So far, their restaurant is only open on Saturdays and Sundays.
Medi, chef and owner of Nanay Cirila’s and Jeremy, chef and owner of Deli de San Honore
Mussels in roasted corn chowder soup P140 / small bowl (not for sharing). This soup contained lots of whole kernel corns which made me feel like I was eating corn and not soup. I prefer that my soup is soupy which does not require too much chewing and grinding.
Medi ordered the Smoked Farmer’s Sausages pasta. She offered me some but I declined. The portion is big enough for two people.
Callos is one of my favorite dishes. Deli de San Honore’s version comes in a small bowl with a freshly baked bread and is P350 / order. It’s good for one person. If you want rice, you may order extra.
I would rather that the bowl does not have sprinkles of red paprika. A nice clean looking bowl would do, anyway callos already has a deep brownish red color.
The specialty of the house is Herb de Provence Porkchop P350 / order with garlic fried rice. This is their winner dish, deserving to be their specialty. It’s tender and flavorful.
This is what I will order again next time I visit. My husband will surely like this too.
Medi and I split a plate of Banana- Chocolate Hazelnut Crepe. P180 / order.
This is good.
