Mad Hatter Afternoon Tea - Oh My Buhay

April 12, 2019

I went back to the University College London Hospital for a second look at my shoulder and elbow fractures. But the nurse told me to just continue taking the painkillers and to come back after two days in case the pain did not improve. I was leaving for Manila in two days so I wouldn’t be able to go back for a check-up.

From the hospital I took a black cab to Sanderson Hotel to join Oyen and Kimberly for the Mad Hatter Afternoon Tea Party at 1:30 p.m. London city traffic was so bad, more so on a Friday afternoon. I decided to get off at the corner of Tottenham Road. I thought I knew my direction to the hotel but I got confused. I stopped at a convenience store to ask for help. The two Indian guys who either own or work there were so accommodating. They thought tiga Vietnam ako.  I bought two lotto tickets from their store. I don’t know yet if I won or not. I would know next time I am in London.  He is looking at the city map on his phone in this photo.

Oyen and Kimberly were already seated when I arrived at the afternoon tea. The hotel was several blocks away from the convenience store and I walked slow, stopping occasionally ro make sure I was going to the right direction.

The afternoon tea was more for the experience and not to fill our stomachs. It was like going back in time when we were little girls and playing house, serving imaginary teas in tiny ceramic tea set.

We were given five different kinds of blended reas to sniff and choose. I picked White Rabbit. It smelled like milk chocolate.

We were served one three tiered tray of pastries, more like eye poppers and not to satisfy our hungry stomachs.

Among the things that landed on our table, my favorite was the fruit juice. The bottle was so tiny, I asked for refill. They gave us another round, one gulp per tiny bottle.

If you are asking me if it’s worth the expense, here is my answer. If you are hungry and expect real food for your buck, then it’s not the place to enjoy good food. With £165 you can have a whole peking duck, crab, prawns, and a lauriat for 10 people in Chinatown. If you want to have fun by sitting at the hotel’s covered lanai for a good hour, enjoying your surroundings and colorful pastries served like fairy tale, then coming to Mad Hatter in Sanderson Hotel could be it.
