After seeing Lady Gaga’s mansion (under renovation), we rested for 10 mintues inside the Magnolia Bakery at the corner of Columbus Avenue and West 69th Street. This is a famous place pala. Their cupcakes are so popular and the favorites of celebrities. They were featured in Sex and the City, Saturday Night Live, Prime, The Devil Wears Prada, Spin City, and Veronica Mars.
They first opened in West Village in 1996 with 3 employees. Their bakery was shut down in July 2007 by the New York Department of Health due to sanitary issues. The mayor’s office was deluged with calls and complaints from loyal Magnolia patrons that the next day it was given a permit to reopen after they fixed the problems and passed the Department of Health’s inspection (Wikipedia).
The bakery has since changed owners and is now expanding to 120 branches worldwide.
I had four tiny cups(free tasting) of the most delicious banana pudding. It’s so creamy. It tasted like melted ice cream and whipped cream. What a divine creation.
