We have a new set of household helpers. While I was away, my husband experienced first hand how it was like to deal with this maid phenomenon. They come and go. Meron daw one day lang. Merong isa sira pala ang ulo. That’s scary. For the past several months, he took charge of hiring and firing our maids. He used all sorts of strategies to keep them or find the best maid.
He increased their salaries and committed to give an increase every three months. He spoiled them with food. He was spending more for the domestic staff’s meals. He didn’t scold them. He was ultra nice. Nope, wala ring epek. The good thing is, at least I know that it’s not about me. It validated the fact that I was not a factor to their decision to leave. I am not the reason why no maid stayed with us longer than few months. Not one of us because most of the time our house is empty. We’re all working and we’re always not here. So the problem why we always have maid problem is simply the quality of maids we luckily get. Whew, at least let that be put on record. The problem is them, not us.
