I was trained by my mother to make our bed as soon as I get up in the morning. She was very strict and would yell at me if I didn’t do it.
I hated it at that time but now that I am old, older, in retrospect that was a very good discipline. I still carry that same training until now. I never leave our room in the morning without fixing the covers. Even when I am traveling and staying at hotels. There are times I don’t let housekeeping clean the room. I tidy the bed myself. And before checking out, I don’t live the room messy, I clean it a little bit.
I also can’t stand dirty sheets, blankets, and pillowcases. I always want them clean. I could tell if the sheets need washing. I know nakakatamad kasi it’s hard to put back the fitted sheet. But we have to do it. It feels soo good sleeping on newly washed sheets.
I didn’t train my children the same way my mother did. I am not strict to my children when it comes to doing household work. My mom proved to be a better mother.
Please remember, your first task when you wake up in the morning is to say a little prayer, and then as soon as you get up, make your bed, or make up your bed as others want to call it. If you do this every morning, you’re off to a good start. This simple task teaches you NOT to be lazy.
Make sure too that the bedsheets, blankets, pillowcases, and pillows, are clean and smelling good.
One of the conditions we had with my sons when they asked for their own rooms – make sure you know how to fix your bed everyday.
