I had the privilege of riding on a top of the line fancy Tesla car Model X 2018 owned by a 39-year-old successful Filipino Californian, Michael. He bought this two months ago for a whopping $120,000 plus sales tax and etc.
I was amazed not just by the looks of this electric car but also by the fancy features. I didn’t have to use my hands to open the door.
Everything is electronically actuated. It also has the falcon wing doors that dramatically lift up for the passengers’ easy access to the rear seats. Of course this car requires a wide driveway and high ceiling garage. It’s eye-catching for sure.
This car has the total package. It is littered with outstanding features. The screen is bigger than an Ipad pro. Michael said it has the capability to function without a driver. He said one time the police pulled over a Tesla car running on the freeway after they noticed that the driver was sleeping in front of the wheel. The driver was so drunk he fell asleep while driving but the car continued running safely.
Michael and his wife share their blessings with an orphanage in Negros. They
send support for the kids’ basic education.
I am both happy and proud to meet Filipinos who make it good in other countries. And who remain well-grounded, compassionate to the poor, and who don’t forget that they are Filipinos first and foremost.
