After lunch, we drove up to the Hakone mountains. There are a lot of resort hotels in this area and the lake is so beautiful and serene. I thought we would stop and take pictures but we went straight to Mt. Kami, the highest peak in Hakone. Mt. Kami erupted 3,000 years ago but up to this day, there are areas that continuously spew hot vapor and sulfide.

Once known as Oojigoku (hell or grand hell), Mt. Kami was renamed as “Owakudani” before the Meiji emperor’s visit in 1876. It was believed inauspicious for the Emperor to visit a place called “hell”.

It’s good pala if someone tells you “go to hell”. Dapat isagot mo “Thank you so much, you go to hell too”.

We trekked to the yellow house to eat black eggs believed to prolong your life by 7 years every time you eat an egg.

Akyat kami kay Mt. Kami

I don’t exercise kaya I had to stop a few times to catch my breath. Hingal na hingal ako kasi matarik. There were several very old looking Japanese women who were climbing unaided. Sabi ni Edmund “oh tingnan mo sila, daig ka pa”.
Eh siguro yang mga yan baby pa umaakyat na dito, baka pang two hundred na nilang akyat dito sa bundok. At ang dami na nilang eggs na nakain kaya aabot na yan ng 200 years old.

I ate two eggs, I added 14 years to my life. Edmund ate 3.

My kids each had two. Para kaming sumali sa egg eating contest. More than two para akong masasamid na.

Boiling Black eggs- oh my buhay

Let us create something for the tourists to be amused about when they visit our country. Our itlog-na-maalat, let’s place them on top of calvary, meron sa Binangonan na kalbaryo, tapos let’s invent a story. Eat one red egg and scare away one ghost. Di ba sabi, para hindi ka multuhin, magsuot ka ng pula? Let’s also have a photo booth in the area, with a red coffin, para terno.

Eating lots of red salty eggs could shorten your life. Before you could turn red to scare away ghosts,
you could die from high blood and be a ghost.
