Navigating the streets in my hometown is like joining the Amazing Race. Our town has become an obstacle course. Tricycles rule the narrow roads. They park anywhere, unmindful of the fact that these roads are made to share. With the growing number of residents who are able to buy three wheel and two wheel motor vehicles, including those who now can afford nice cars and SUVs but without their own garages, the situation gets more challenging.
Hard to pass because the street is full of parked vehicles, tricycles and people.
Plus hukay here and hukay there.
Aside from the two thousand or more tricycles that pollute the lungs and ears of residents, the road is made even narrower by the houses and establishments that encroach on public land. The local government must impose the required setbacks so that houses do not protrude their balconies, terrazas, porches on the street. Many establishments put up semi-permanent structures right on the sidewalk. For new building constructions and renovations, setbacks must strictly be imposed. Monitoring must be done to make sure the rules are respected and followed
Back in the day, okay lang even without sidewalks. People were able to walk freely and safely right in the middle of the street. There were no tricycles yet. Pero ngayon one is always in danger of being bumped by these kings of the road.
