National Valentines Holiday

National Valentines Holiday

There are legislators who want to declare Valentines Day a national holiday.
No work, no classes, with pay. Kasi daw it’s a time to bond with families.

While I do recognize that Valentines Day forces husbands to bond with his wife of sawa na years, making this day a national holiday so that families could bond doesn’t justify the effect on business operations. Aside from the sick leaves, vacation leaves, birthday leaves, maternity leaves mandatory to all companies, we observe more than a dozen more non-working holidays including two Muslim holidays, Chinese New Year.

Our country has too many holidays already.
This is for 2015:
Jan 1 Thursday New Year’s Day
Jan 2 Friday Special non-working day after New Year
Jan 3 Saturday Maulid un-Nabi Common Local holidays
Jan 15 Thursday Pope’s Visit (Public holiday in Manila) Observance
Jan 16 Friday Pope’s Visit (Public holiday in Manila) Observance
Jan 17 Saturday Pope’s Visit (Public holiday in Manila) Observance
Jan 18 Sunday Pope’s Visit (Public holiday in Manila) Observance
Jan 19 Monday Pope’s Visit (Public holiday in Manila) Observance

Feb 19 Thursday Chinese Lunar New Year’s Day
Feb 25 Wednesday People Power Anniversary
Mar 20 Friday March equinox Season

Apr 2 Thursday Maundy Thursday
Apr 3 Friday Good Friday
Apr 4 Saturday Holy Saturday
Apr 5 Sunday Easter Sunday
Apr 9 Thursday The Day of Valor

May 1 Friday Labor Day

Jun 12 Friday Independence Day

Jul 19 Sunday Eid al-Fitr

Aug 21 Friday Ninoy Aquino Day
Aug 30 Sunday National Heroes Day
Aug 31 Monday National Heroes Day

Oct 15 Thursday Amun Jadid Muslim Holiday
Nov 1 Sunday Special Non-working Holiday
Nov 2 Monday All Souls’ Day
Nov 30 Monday Bonifacio Day

Dec 24 Thursday Christmas Eve

Dec 25 Friday Christmas Day

Dec 26-29 Ipit Holidays

Dec 30 Wednesday Rizal Day
Dec 31 Thursday New Year’s Eve

Add the Monday sickness, Friday sickness, namatay ang kumpare sickness, fiesta sa amin sickness, menopausal sickness, dysmenorrhea, morning, afternoon, and evening sicknesses. Plus each town or city observes their own holidays (example, San Juan Day, Quezon City Day, Angono Days) and in some areas, it’s not only for one day, merong exaggerated na 2-3 days. Parang mga hindi kailangang maghanapbuhay. Idagdag pa yung surprise holidays and nature-declared flood and typhoon days.

National and local government officials, politicians, who always think of giving people a rest have no clue what absences, work stoppages, closures, mean to business. wala kasi kayong hinahabol na delivery. Wala kasi kayong kailangan report na gawin. Wala kayong deadline. Palibhasa hindi kayo ang nagpapasweldo. Hindi kayo ang nagbabayad ng benepisyo at taxes.

Foreign investors have been complaining we have too many holidays.

Adding the Love Day to our calendar would set a precedent, what’s next, Mother’s Day. Father’s Day, Secretary’s Day, Grandparents Day, LGBT Day.

But of course family is extremely important. We need to make time for each other. That’s why WE all have SUNDAYS as family day. Make use of this day to hang out with your loved ones. KISS your wife and bring her out. Don’t wait for February 14, 2016 to remember that you have an aging wife.

This year 2015 there are 52 Sundays. Ang dami nang bonding time nyan with your wife. Prices of daffodils are cheaper any day except Feb 14. Pupugin mo ng halik every Sunday and tell her you love her always. Ewan ko lang pagdating ng Valentines Day eh gusto nyo pang mag bonding.
