We have a new cook (again). She stayed for 6 years with her last employer in Loyola Grand Villa, Quezon City. She had a misunderstanding with her co-kasambahay that’s why she left (according to her).
Omb——–“Ilang ang ipinagluluto mo duon?”
Cook——-“Madami mam, madami sila”.
Omb——–“Sampu?”
Cook——-“Lima”.
(Is that a lot of people to cook for?)
Omb——–“Saan ka namamalengke?”
Cook——-“Yung amo ko ang namimili, isinasama lang ako”.
I asked her to list down her specialty. She said she cooks Filipino dishes like pansit, sopas, lugaw. I asked what she cooked for her former employer’s breakfast, she said pansit, sopas, lugaw. I asked what they served when they have guests, she said spaghetti. I asked if she knows how to cook pasta. She said her employers didn’t like pasta, only spaghetti. I asked what she prepares for their merienda, if palabok. No she couldn’t cook palabok, only pansit. She said she cooks fish balls. I asked what else she could cook considering that she was employed for 6 years as cook. She said her employers like pansit, sopas, lugaw (she mentioned that 3x already).
What else? She said once in a while her employers requested for something special, lumpiang shanghai and spaghetti (again!).
With that candid conversation, I lowered my expectations.

Maybe she can watch cooking shows/Food Network Chanel when she’s not cooking lugaw.
It’s not that hard to learn new dishes but, creative people do make better cooks.
I’m sending you that recipe book tomorrow. Promise!
