Oh My Buhay is not a food blog

People who have recently discovered my online diary Oh My Buhay think it’s a food blog eh kasi naman puro picture ng food, puro kain, takaw kasi. No mamsers, I am neither a food blogger nor a restaurant critic.

Eating out has become part of our daily lives. In this present generation, one doesn’t need a special occasion to go out and eat in a nice restaurant. Any time any day, labas tayo, kain tayo.

During my parents’ days, our family only ate out on special occasions— college graduation of my brothers, after my Kuya passed the medical board exam, after my Kuya Lito passed the CPA board exam. I don’t even remember if we went to a restaurant after I graduated from college. It went by like an ordinary day.

Since my parents were busy 7 days a week, there were no Sundays off to have lunch in Ma Mon Luk. Every special occasion that I remembered we celebrated was spent eating pansit, hototay soup, chopsuey, yangchow fried rice, at the Peace Panciteria in Ongpin (Chinatown).

Other choices were Max, Aristocrat, Barrio Fiesta, Ma Mon Luk, Savory Fried Chicken but my parents’ hand-down choice was always Peace Panciteria.

When my children were still little, I brought them out to restaurants usually once a week, after we attended either the anticipated mass or the Sunday mass. No eating out on weekdays.

There were times the three of us went out for merienda but those were not very frequent.

After my daughter came back to the country twelve years ago, eating out became more frequent. The two of us would swing by the mall to grab some food, sometimes to have late lunch or early dinner.
She was adjusting to her new environment and in an effort to entertain her, we frequented the mall. Kain-kain lang para malibang sya.

Our traveling also became more frequent so eating in restaurants became an ordinary day to day activity. So when back at home in Manila, one doesn’t need a special reason to go get a table at a restaurant.

We eat out frequently, thus, you’ll find more food photos but it’s not meant to blog about those restaurants.

My husband has lost a solid ten (10) pounds by skipping the rice, pasta, sweets, colas, and simply cutting down on his food intake. Salad mostly is his dinner.

Me, the accidental blogger, eat anything and everything in front of me. The desire to cut down will always be in my heart and mind but all the calories, carbohydrates, sweets, will always be in my tummy. More food photos!
