Old Basketball Comrades - Edmund and Rudy Distrito

Old Basketball Comrades: Edmund and Rudy

Edmund and Rudy Distrito recently had a mini reunion in Bacolod City.
They are magkumpadre, Edmund being the ninong sa binyag of Rudy’s daughter Sweet.
These two guys first met as staunch sports rivals. Rudy was the star player of the University of the East college basketball team while Edmund played for the University of Santo Tomas varsity team. They found themselves on the opposite courts during UAAP games but remained friendly to each other. Their friendship was cemented when they found themselves playing for the Crispa Redmanizers and living in the same building called QUARTERS owned by the family of Danny Floro. The building’s located in Mabini Street and is walking distance to the Malate church. The dozen players, both pro and amateur, who lived there for a few years became close to each other. That’s where Edmund and Tito Varela also became good friends. Tito was one of our wedding abays. Edmund naman is the ninong of Tito’s son.

  1. I remember the more earlier Crispa team members like Atoy Co, Bogs and Philip and Abet. I left Manila for good just in the midst of the People’s Revolution. Of coz, Crispa and team owner Danny Floro are such gigantic names. Just browsing at internet and found this article about Crispa. Great!
