1. At 7 am, while Edmund and I were at the dining table talking about many things, masyado akong nalibang o maybe na-stress, I took a slice of bibingkang malagkit. Then another slice, and another slice. Before I knew it, I finished all 10 slices. Edmund is the one who’s supposed to eat more because he continues to lose weight, ako naman ang kain ng kain.
2. I woke up at 1 am. I went down to the kitchen to look for food. I found two boxes of fresh spring rolls. #midnightsnack
3. I went back to bed at 3 am, then I woke up at 5:30 am. Edmund was watching tv. I decided to just go to the market this early thinking that vehicular traffic would still be light. By the time I got ready, traffic had built up. At 7 am, it was already heavy traffic. Luckily for us, we were going to the opposite direction. It skipped my mind that there was Metro Manila Shake Drill. But even without the shake drill, it is always heavy traffic morning noon and night.
My first destination was the the fish stall specializing in salmon, tuna, pompano and lapu-lapu. I bought one and a half kilo of salmon belly. I told them to give me a kilo only but they can’t seem to give people what they are only asking for. Always, always, they up sell.

We have two new maids courtesy of my mother in law. Our maid Ana was pirated by a celebrity household around the block. Every afternoon kasi she walked Stitch and Tyler around the village. Eh this celebrity family walks every 5 pm. Her salary was topped by 70%. We didn’t want to compete. One maid who was recommended to us by the security stayed for only a week. She was recruited also by Ana but yesterday she texted Edmund. She wanted to come back daw. Siguro wag na lang.
Edmund doesn’t want to hire muna maids from agencies. And he also doesn’t want to mix our maids with maids hired from agencies. Kasi mga bad influence. So for now, we have two maids from Payatas. They’re nice naman. I brought one along to the market. She doesn’t know the kinds of fish. She thought the salmon is the lapu-lapu, pompano – talakitok. Basta pinag-jumble-jumble nya ang mga pangalan ng isda. It’s okay. I was also ignorant of the many kinds of fish when I first lived in Manila. Coming from the probinsya in Rizal, I could only identiy dalag, biya, ayungin, kanduli and small hipon.
5. I discovered a couple selling live dalag from Bulacan.
P300 a kilo. One piece of dalag is almost a kilo.
6. I bought two kilos of hito. I told the vendor to remove na lang the heads but my maid said masarap daw yun adobo. O okay. I had the heat cut off still but I had it separated in a different supot. Edmund likes crispy hito with sawsawan na suka. That would be our dinner tonight.
7. After buying a kilo of jumping shrimps, liempo, beef, vegetables, we proceeded to the fruits section. I bought navel oranges at 40 pesos each. Tila mahal yata. I wanted to buy bananas but the vendor didn’t want to give me a half piling. Ang dami kasi mabubulok lang. Edmund likes mangosteen but I got tired negotiating for what was a fair price for a kilo. Ang layu-layo ng range. Merong P350 a kilo, merong P250. Siguro yung malapit ng malok-buloks ay P150. Next time na lang nga. The cherries naman were P900 a kilo. Whooo! Sabagay that’s cheaper than traveling to California to join the cherry picking tour. Ma sunburn ka pa. Aabalahin mo pa mga relatives mo to drive for you.
8. To show my gratitude to my companions, I bought them fresh fruit juices (samalamig). Beinte pesos pala isang baso. Kala ko sampung piso lang. I have to adjust my price points.
Si Girlie ang gusto ay mango juice. Si Sgt. E ay orange juice, Si DN ay avocado juice, at isa pang avocado juice. Sorry na lang yung naiwan sa parking, walang juice.
9. Nice sunflowers.
A—–“Miss magkano ang isa?”
Vendor—–“Two hundred fifty”.
A——“Wow, mahal pala”.
Vendor—–“Two hundred na lang”.
A——“Saka na lang. Thank you”.
Vendor——“Hoy, magkano daw itong sunflower?”
Older vendor—–“Syento otsenta na lang”.
A——“Hmm, sige, isang lang”.
10. I also bought a kilo of fresh lychee. I placed them in the ref, they taste better and refreshing when cold.
11. As soon as we arrived home, I prepared our breakfast. I cooked garlic fried rice with lots and lots of garlic for my daughter. She seldom eats rice in the morning kasi nga diet conscious.
Here’s hoping she would be tempted to eat when she smells and sees the fried rice.
12. The maids prepared this nilagang baka for Edmund. Daming food kasi he has to eat more. He has lost 10 pounds and he must force himself to eat so his weight doesn’t continue to drop.
Ms. Annie, I miss this kind of post from you. Thanks. Masarap talaga ang cherries, also the golden Ranier cherries from Washington state because they’re crunchy and sweet. Parang ang sarap mamalengke dahil sa post mo na ito.
Thank you Joey.
I love cherries too! Ang mahal lang here. Napakasarap rin ng pic ng malagkit. 🙂
Medyo shocking nga ang P900 / kilo. Plus I am sure the weighing scale is not accurate.
