My hotel had been prepaid two days before we left Manila for Beijing. I didn’t touch anything from the minibar. The only additional charge was a local phone call I made to the DTI secretariat office set up in Beijing Hotel.
Edmund gave me a bunch of bills from his previous trips to China. Since I didn’t go out to shop and all my meals were covered, I wasn’t able to use the Chinese currency he gave me.
The telephone charge was one renminbi. I took out one bill and gave it to the woman. She said I needed 10 of these.
Ten bills seemed a lot for one renminbi value.
