Hay Yan Chicken Dinner - Oh My Buhay

Hay Yan Chicken Dinner

I needed two hours to prepare and cook in time for dinner but I still had to buy a blender that’s why I lost another hour. I got home at 6 pm and finished cooking at 8:15 pm. Edmund and my son were already waiting.

When the rice was almost cooked, I realized that I forgot to put salt. I had to put more chicken stock with salt and mix the rice. All those mixing made the Jasmine rice soggy and overcooked.

I prepared four kinds of sauces- chili sauce, caramel soy, Thai fish sauce and ginger sauce

I placed the Chicken rice in the covered bowl.

I overcooked the chicken, I did not know how to debone it kaya nagka lansag-lansag yung laman,
The chicken soup was good according to my son and Edmund. But when I asked about the chili, Edmund said he couldn’t tell. That’s a kind way of saying “walang lasa”.
My daughter told me it doesn’t taste like chili. I think it’s because I substituted the Thai finger chili with a thinner bell pepper kasi I couldn’t find finger chil. Julienne said masarap daw, she can put in pasta. Huh?

The plating looked disastrous, the taste? Good but not great. Edmund and my son did not say a thing while eating the chicken. My daughter had it for breakfast and she said it’s good. She again had it for dinner but my husband told me “kinakain ng anak mo yung niluto mo, na-tyaga rin…”
And what does that mean?

See, after all those preparations, expense, effort… this came out. Instead of a Hainan Chicken, naging Hay Yan, Sorry.
