It was the perfect time to eat al fresco in Hog Island at Oxbrow Public Market in Napa. Ang presko-presko. Medydo nakakasilaw lang.
Very pleasant weather but the sun was a little too much for my eyes.
Tables outside are shared with other customers.
There are more menu choices in their San Francisco restaurant. But it’s fine. I order the same things every time— fresh oysters and clam chowder.
I wish their bread is softer. Hindi pwede pag naka pustiso ka at baka matanggal ang mga ipin mo.
A dozen of Pacific Sweetwater oysters from Tomales Bay for $33 plus tax. Napa branch has a happy hour every Tuesday. I am not sure if that’s a regular promotion but that’s a good deal at only a dollar per oyster.
Hog Island’s clam chowder used to be the best clam chowder in my opinion. But now, the taste and quality have retrogressed. Look at how milky it is. It looks like someone wanted to get rid of a carton of cream and dumped it into my bowl. There are also less clams now and more of this soupy creamy milky thingy. What happened?
Their oysters though remain my favorite. Super fresh and instead of the standard tomato based seafood sauce most restaurants use, I prefer their cilantro vinaigrette.
I wanted to taste the other varieties so I ordered a half dozen more for $18 plus tax.
Two pieces of Pacific Ichiban, two pieces of Capital City and two pieces of Chelsea Gem all for $18 plus tax. They all tasted similar. Next time, I will order the same thing again, the Hog Island Sweetwater Pacific.
