After we left St. Peter Funeral Chapels last Sunday night, I looked for an establishment where I could stay for a few minutes before going home. It’s called pagpag in Tagalog.
A———– “Dyan, Fisher Mall, ang laki”.
Driver—— “Savemore?”
A———– “Fisher Mall, hayun”.
Driver—— “syee shell?”
A———– “FISHER MALL! lampas na di bale, sige diretso, pag may nakita kang grocery tumigil ka”.
We turned right at EDSA, I spotted KFC.
A———– “Yan pumasok ka dyan, KFC”.
Driver—— “McDonald!”
A———- “KFC!!!”
Driver—– “yes mam”.
I got a bucket of 8 pieces. Comes with 4 drinks, coleslaw, mashed potato, gravy. I don’t need the drinks. I thought of giving one to their security guard pero baka naman mapagalitan dahil bawal. I thought of giving two to the istambay pero ewan I didn’t do it. Even when I was already in the van, parang nahinayang ako bakit hindi ko ibinigay dun sa parking boys. Inisip ko I would just give the two cups to two of the maids.
On our way home, I messaged Edmund that i bought Kentucky Fried Chicken. Nyke called in one minute after I texted Edmund.
Nyke———“Mom, dad said you bought KFC?”
Mom———- “Yes anak, a bucket of 8 pieces, with coleslaw, mashed potato, large gravy, macaroni salad”.
Nyke——— “Mom, we ordered KFC delivery. Dad said he wants KFC. We ordered a bucket, 8 pieces chicken with large gravy, coleslaw, macaroni salad and mashed potato”.
Mom———- “Ha? di double na, we’re going to eat chicken for the next few days”.
When we reached home, the paper cup holder snapped and two of the cups splattered on our driveway. SAbi ko na nga ba ipamimigay ko itong dalawa na ito. Isn’t that crazy?
Dump in the hamper everything you were wearing to the funeral or wake. Lahat lahat, then take a shower, or at least wash your hands, arms, feet, legs, face.
We haven’t started eating the bucket that I bought when the delivery arrived.
We ate 14 pieces. 5 Edmund, 3 me, Nyke 3, Oyen, 3. We ate so fast kasi baka lumamig yung chickens hindi masarap pag malamig na. I told my kids every time we brought home KFC, I remember the times when their Lolo Cardo would come home (Hayward) with KFC, corn on the cob, etc. Oyen was only 3 years old that time. Those were happy and memorable days. Simple happiness.
I don’t want to eat chicken until Christmas.
