Birthday vacation finished, time to head back home.
The PAL flying time is longer coming from Honolulu to Manila by almost two hours. I was anxious to ride the plane because of the Germanwings tragedy. Kaya when they announced that it’s going to be an eleven hour flight, tagal na tagal ako.
The only meal I liked was the smoked salmon salad.
I didn’t sleep the entire time. I watched several movies.
1. Walking on Tombstones, starring Liam Neeson
2. This is Where I leave you, starring Jason Bateman, Tina Fey, Ford
3. What Happens in Vegas, starring Ashton Kutcher and Cameron Diaz
4. And upon my daughter’s high recommendation, I watched one Tagalog movie– Beauty in a Bottle, starring Assunta de Rossi, Angelica Panganiban, Angeline Quinto, Tom Rodriguez, Ellen Adarna, Empress Schuck, Vicki Belo, Crystal Henares. The movie was good. It was worth my while. It’s a little different from the usual teleserye, drama or Tagalog movies that I’ve seen. It had some substance. It’s about women who are insecure about their looks because they think they’re ugly and/or they are getting older.
5. I last watched the movie, The Judge, which made me cry several times. When the plane was landing, I was still crying. The movie stars Robert Downey, Jr. as the brilliant lawyer Hank Palmer while Robert Duvall is Judge Joseph Palmer. Hank went home to his hometown Indiana when his mother, 74, passed away.
Oyen said she has a DVD of the Judge, I want to watch it again, and again.
Ayaw kong matulog, parang I wanted to go to the cockpit and keep an eye on the pilots. The tragic Germanwings happened just two days ago.
I’ve been to the cockpit a few times. First was when I was flying to Cebu, naku maybe 26 years ago. The pilot invited me to sit in. I was there until the plane landed. The door was open the whole time, with the stewardess bringing them sandwiches, coffee, water, etc.
The second time was when I was traveling to Frankfurt. I was on Row 1 seat A. A few minutes after take-off, the flight attendant approached me and said the captain was inviting me to observe. Punta naman ako, it was such a surreal experience most especially when the plane passed the international date line. I remembered the pilot saying that he finds peace when the plane is already on autopilot and he is able to relax. He said he’s happy when he’s up there. I have long forgotten their names and faces. Siguro mga retired na sila.
I was not invited, but I insisted to have a look at the cockpit with the pilot and co-pilot when the plane landed. Haha. It was my flight from DVO to MNL. Surreal looking at those confusing buttons.
