For our last night in Bacolod, my special request was to eat alimasag again.
Instead of going back to Diotay where we had our first-night dinner, we went to Palapala. My three companions had all been to this restaurant, I haven’t.
Again, my husband wanted to eat in the no-aircon dining section but we went instead to the airconditioned area where it was quieter and syempre merong aircon.
Nice dining area, more presentable.
Aside form the fresh catch, Palapala has ready-cooked dishes like kare-kare.
We were not sure if they would have alimasag but they did. As soon as Edmund saw it, hayan-hayan!
Some people are allergic to alimasag. Nangangati ang buong katawan. Ako never pa ako nangati kasi sanay na siguro katawan ko dahil bata pa ako madalas ganito ulam namin.
Minsan iniisip ko ang salbahe nating mga tao, pinapatay natin other living things. Look at these fish, they look distressed, kawawa. Tapos kakainin ko. Nakakaguilty.
My husband did the ordering. He was hungry that’s why he ordered a lot. I over-ordered alimasag naman. I thought ang konti so I said “dagdag pa, baka kulang”.
E—–“Tila ang dami.”
A—–“Hindi, uubusin ko yan lahat.”
Then I decided to ask how much a kilo was.
A—-“Magkano isang kilo?”
E—-“Huwag ka ng magtanong.”
A—–“Magkano isang kilo?”
Food attendant—-“Seven hundred fifty?”
A—–“P750? Wow ang mahal pala.”
A—–“Tart ang mahal, bawasan na lang natin>”
Edmund said “Oh, nagtipid ka pa. Okay na yan, nakilo na eh”.
Na-shock ako P750 a kilo x 2 kilos = P1,500 alimasag pa lang. Kala ko kasi P250 a kilo.
My husband ordered this, ginataang something.
Edmund stayed in Bacolod for a week in February of last year for the PAL Interclub golf tournament. He and his golf team mates had dinner here once kaya feeling familiar sya. Dimple said pala means shovel, which is correct, but Edmund said palapala means market, like a Sunday market or flea market.
I only ate the soup. iIwas afraid to eat the clams kasi they were so big, the laman looked like clear eyeballs. Ay!
I just kept on eating this alimasag like a marathon session.
My husband ordered all this food, gutom sya talaga, para kaming nag-buffet. I didn’t taste the other dishes, I just had the alimasag, soup, and a tiny slice of the grilled pork.
As if we were not stuffed yet, when we reached Seda Hotel Edmund and I went straight to the hotel’s roof deck to unwind.
He had coffee while I had green mango shake and we both shared a plate of nachos with cheese.
Good night Bacolod, we enjoyed our short stay.
