Pirates of the Metropolis

Doing business has many challenges. One challenge that majority of companies are facing regardless of the industry they’re in and regardless of their size is manpower. Labor.

I recently met the owners of one of the country’s biggest importer of super high end home furnishings, kitchen equipment, and Italian furniture.
They employ interior designers from top universities in the country. They are sent abroad for training, exposure and incentives. They end up pirated by their competitors. In some cases, these employees provide confidential information to the company they are transferring to while they are still connected with their present employer. #bad

The owner particularly cited this one person they sent to Europe for 4 months for training. When he resigned, they even had a send-off or despedida party for him. Seven months after he left, he would show up once in a while to make kumusta lang daw. Yun pala he was spying. He was collecting information from his former-co-workers and who knows, he could be stealing company records, clients’ files.
After they found out about this, they sued him. The case is still pending in court.

I’ve said this before, the generation of today is different from the orientation and culture of the past.

Our sales employees come and go. Not all, but many. They hop from one dealer to another. Marami sa kanila naka pag around the metropolis na.
Our direct competitors are enticing them to leave us. Ready jobs are waiting for sales employees coming from our group.
What we do naman on our end is when there are job applicants that came from other Ford dealers, we ask and verify if they have already resigned from their previous employer lest we could be suspected of pirating them.

This non-loyalty culture also happens in the banking industry. Ask a bank manager where he/she came from prior to her present post. Nag-around the world na rin yan. From BDO consumer loans, moved to Security bank housing loans, ngayon naman sa Robinson’s Bank Consumer Loans department. Bukas maybe a job at Metrobank.

No one can stop an employee from going over the fence. That’s a fact of life. Where ever they find happiness, they should go. But based on our experience, their happiness are always short-lived.

There are companies that are born to be dirty players. Ganun talaga, part of their success strategy is to bad mouth, stab at the back, their competitors. That’s how they thrive. They call themselves smart. I say smart snakes.

Many years ago, I thought of coming out with an herbal vitamin product. I met with some officials of the BFAD. They told me that dirty tricks also abound in that industry. Nagsisiraan din. Nag-iimbento ng mga kwento para siraan ang kalaban. Even among restaurants din daw. Ano yun, lalagyan ng buhok ang pagkain? Grabe naman.

Oh well, we are in constant hiring mode. If you think you have what it takes to excel in the automotive industry be it in the accounting department, customer service, marketing, and sales, do hop in. Bring a simple resume (bio data) or email to [email protected]. Most importantly, please do bring your loyalty and sincerity.
