Possessed with Jealousy and envy

I’ve noticed after the visit of Pope Francis, Filipino priests are trying harder to reach out to the parishioners during the Homily. Some are successful, some are awkwardly trying hard. Let’s give them credit.

I’d like to share with you the things I’ve picked up from the Homily two weeks ago.

PRIEST:
“Are you possessed with the spirit of jealousy? Spirit of Envy?
Life is passing. It’s a journey. We are made for heaven, not the things for this place nor pleasures of the earth”.

OMB:
For humans (me included), it’s easy to be consumed by material wishes. Not necessarily being envious or jealous of what others have.
We live in a world of commercialism, syempre, we see things that we like, we are bombarded with advertisements. Places to visit, photos of food, new cars, a new bag, a different color of shoes. I myself is guilty. Kahapon lang, when Oyen and I had a meeting in front of Greenbelt, she went to Starbucks to get coffee. I told her I would go to the toilet and would meet her in front of the watch stores. Ayun, tapos na syang uminom ng kape, na traffic ako inside one of the watch stores. Hala, sukat ng sukat. Puro “Oooh I like that, Oh that’s nice too”.
Oyen——“Mom, have you been to the toilet?”
Omb——-“Ay naku anak, sorry, na-stack ako dito. Wait…”

I ran to the nearby toilet… Nadun na ako sa pinto, one step in na ako..
Oyen——“Mom! mom! that’s for guys!”
Kita mo, pag naka kita ako ng watches, nalilimutan ko na kung girl or boy ako.

It’s but natural for any one to WANT to have things, by this and that, or a DESIRE to travel to new places. I see nothing wrong with that. Buying things for yourself to make you happy, or it’s something that you think you need, why not, if you can afford it.

I think that’s what sister Annie’s homily means.
