Practice like Shin Dong Pa

Oh well, talo uli, this time to one of the teams expected to make it to the top four, National University (NU).

Tambak from beginning up to the third quarter. The gap narrowed down in the fourth quarter but it was too late.

No amount of cheering and screaming could make the team win if the players themselves lack the basic fundamentals like shooting from the free throw line and footwork.

Fundamentals start from the day the players learned and trained how to play ball. Before going to the varsity league, they are presumed to already know the CORRECT basic skills. Scientific training, rigorous practice and multiple actual game exposure would make them play better.
If they don’t have that yet, then each player must devote extra time practicing alone aside from just attending the required practices.

Many of you don’t know who Shin Dong Pa is. He is the legendary South Korean basketball player who made 50 points during their game against the Philippine National Team. He was a shooting guard and his accuracy was unbelievable. Kahit naka tagilid sya, nakatuwad, na-outbalance na, nasupalpal na, ringless pa rin. He was interviewed why his shooting was very accurate, he said his father made him shoot the ball 3,000 times a day. Repeat, three thousand times a day. Kaya pala kahit malapit ng matalembwang, shoot pa rin.

If a player shoots the ball and the ball doesn’t even touch the ring, what does that tell us? That means this boy lacks the basic fundamentals. He should go back to the gym and practice shooting like Shin Dong Pa.
