I timed our hike to Gellert Hill in the afternoon so we could have a nice romantic dinner at Busulo Juhazs restaurant, one of Budapest’s best restaurants. It’s a short walk from Citadella, maybe a hundred steps downhill.
We didn’t have a reservation and since it was only 5 pm, they could still be closed for dinner.
We saw the waiters eating.
When my children and I dined here last April, we were with twenty other people. The dishes were pre-picked by Ramon Dimacali, president of Federal Phoenix Insurance who sponsored our dinner. The restaurant was full house and we occupied one long table. I knew the food was good but I was distracted because my focus was more on the musicians.
I also didn’t get to see the menu to choose what I wanted.
This time, there were very few people in the restaurant since it wasn’t yet dinnertime. I also took time scanning the menu.
I didn’t know what to recommend to Edmund because I didn’t remember what I ate the last time. I also had no participation in the ordering.
We hit bulls eye because Edmund liked the food a lot. I was happy he enjoyed our dinner. Minsan kasi pag ayaw nya yung food, nakaka-stress sya.
We ordered a cup each of traditional Hungarian beef goulash soup.
I had a simple pasta dish with slivers of cheese and very mild dressing.
My husband was very pleased with his order of pork belly.
Perfectly cooked and seasoned. He gave me a slice, wow it was really flavorful.
Three days later, he was still dreaming about it.
The prices are very reasonable. A small bottle of coca cola is 3 Euro in Vienna or 930 forint. It’s half the price in Budapest.
Edmund and I drank coca cola. Not wine. While he was having coffee, I had another bottle of coke.
One nice thing about the people here in Budapest, they’re not conscious of tips. The waiters are always courteous and attentive. Seldom do they get tips. We observe other customers, and most of them don’t give tips. There’s a service charge already included in the bill. In the Philippines, even if there’s already a service charge, we give extra kasi we don’t trust the management that they will share the tips to the waiters. They do. Let’s learn to trust.
Edmund and I always leave tips.

The waiter called a taxi for us. It took around 5 minutes to get back to the hotel and 1,500 forint.
There’s still time to pose at the same spot where Len, Oyen and I had the same yipee pose last April this year. This time, it’s just me and my photographer. It’s only 6 pm and yet it’s so dark already.
