The rain did not deter us from venturing out a little farther away from the Old Town of Tallinn. Cynthia rented a nice van which brought us to a comfortable half hour drive to reach the Seaplane Harbour Museum. It opened to the public in 2012 and is part of the Estonian Maritime Museum.
The impressive museum is located in Tallinn Aeroplane Harbour inside a humongous building that was originally used as a hangar for seaplanes in the area of Peter the Great’s Naval Fortress.
About ten years ago while I was watching HGTV’s Extreme Homes episode, there was a feature on a beautiful house built inside a huge warehouse such as this or maybe half the size of this hangar. It had a garden and all the conveniences of a modern house. The ceiling was bathed with artificial stars and mood lighting. At a flick of a finger, the owner could let all the natural sunshine in thru the roof’s skylights. The owner was an American billionaire who owned
vast tracts of wooded land around the warehouse. When you see the building from the outside, you would never guess that there’s a beautiful house inside. I thought that would be cool if we probably live in Colorado or in Scotland or somewhere cold. I did not pursue that idea because to have a house inside a warehouse, fully airconditioned (in the Philippines) would be impractical. It’s just one of those crazy fantasies that I have. Maybe if I were 40 years old, I might, might only, build something like that. But not that big, just a tiny bahay kubo inside a warehouse.
